Unique Academic Programs

Nova Academy always prioritizes the cultivation and fulfillment of our students’academic ability and potential. We integrate our distinctive academic resources at the world’s top universities to develop unique academic programs that benefit our students directly. By mobilizing these resources, we are able to provide exceptional opportunities and programming that allows our students to participate in high-level scientific research that strengthens their candidacy at the most competitive colleges and universities.

This unique program includes three possible research projects: 1) Harvard University Data Analysis and Epidemiology Project, 2) Harvard University Alzheimer’s Research Project, and 3) Artificial Intelligence Brain Science Applied Research Project.

Students entering these three projects are all recognized through an official invitation letter from the corresponding Harvard University lab, which enables students to spend their summer studying and living at Harvard. The lead professor for each program teaches students high-level academic knowledge and methods of research. Students are guided by Harvard University professors as they engage in these projects in depth, learn the complete scientific research process, and enter the lab for hands-on practice.
Through in-depth study of the guided inquiry methods, students learn to record scientific logs, write scientific reports and present and defend their lab results. Some students may also publish their own academic papers under their professor’s supervision.

Through working on such important scientific topics, students are introduced to the world of academic research, gain experience working in scientific labs with cutting-edge technology, and train their minds to think scientifically. After learning the methods of rigorous scientific research, they can be confident that they will have the capacity and competency to pursue higher levels of science and innovation in their future academic journey.
Students who complete the research project will have the opportunity to receive recommendations by professors, further enhancing their college applications and even potentially leading to further academic research in the future.

These research programs are unique in that they are affiliated with Harvard University professors and are open to high school students in China. However, seats in these programs are limited and highly contested, and priority is given to students from Nova Academy. These programs have produced students who have gained several admissions to Top 30 universities including Harvard University, Columbia University, Cornell University and Johns Hopkins University.

We also provide our students with opportunities to participate in various public health activities held by the World Health Organization (WHO), such as volunteer services, foundation projects, and health research. Through conducting comprehensive research, writing papers, and using technology to discover and solve societal challenges, we help make students aware of their responsibilities to family, school and society. Such programs are vital to the character development of a student and help young people to understand the importance of contributing to their community and society. This program aims to cultivate student leadership, communication and coordination skills, and social organization and mobilization skills. Exploring the bigger issues of society broadens students’ horizons and gives them practical experiences and insights that can open their minds and unlock the boundaries of their thinking. At the same time, students develop a greater sense of public health awareness, grow to care about social issues, and improve their sense of social responsibility. In the public health and service activities, students can discuss, think about, and reflect on important questions and challenges faced by society. While gaining this knowledge, they also grow to consider their own personal roles in contributing to the common good of society. In all that we do, we strive to help our students develop into capable leaders with a strong sense of service and global perspective.

Scholars Program

The Scholars Program is highly selective and open to outstanding students with excellent study skills, a high level of intellectual curiosity, and a demonstrated record of academic achievement. We work together with individual students in a personalized manner to customize a student-specific academic and enrichment plan based on the individual student’s talents, interests, and ambitions. Through special programming such as interdisciplinary projects, academic research, and/or academic contests and competitions, we guide students on a path towards personal, academic, and intellectual growth that will culminate with the college admissions process.
Students who are capable of balancing enrichment activities with their school coursework are given freedom to explore new ideas and take on new projects. Nova is committed to using its academic resources, including the aforementioned research projects at Harvard University, to open up unique opportunities to our students. The goal is for students to achieve the highest levels of success in their core courses while delving deeper into their academic-focus area through special enrichment projects and programs. This combination not only prepares students to enter some of the most competitive universities in the world, it also equips them with the knowledge base and confidence to succeed when they get there.
